Golden Globe 2021: ‘The Queen’s Gambit’, Netflix Original Series Bags two Awards

Anya Taylor-Joy starrer, Netflix Series, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ took home two awards at the Golden Globe 2021. The show, Queen’s Gambit focuses on how a teen chess prodigy makes her way to take on the best chess players of the world with the skills. The series is based on a 1983 novel of the same name written by Walter Tevis.

Award Categories

The show has won the award for the Best Television Limited Series (Anthology or TV Film). The lead, Anya Taylor-Joy, has won the award for the Best Actress in a Limited Series (Anthology or TV Film).

She played the role of Beth Harmon and had given a powerful performance as a chess player in the 1950s and ’60’s. The character development shows how she becomes one of the finest and fiercest Chess player of America. The 24-year old actress, has surely done justice to the portraying character in a seven-episode series.

Here’s what Anya said while accepting the award,

“I would love to thank Netflix and the HFPA [Hollywood Foreign Press Association] of course. Thank you for letting us make this show that we wanted to make. Our beautiful cast, our beautiful crew thank you so much.”

“It’s wonderful that everyone’s seen the show but I would do this project again and again and again, I learnt so much, I’m so grateful. Thank you to the audiences that have watched it.”

78th Golden Globe Awards, good for The Queen’s Gambit

The 78th Golden Globe Awards has turned out to be a success for The Queen’s Gambit. Bagging two awards in categories like Best Show and Best Actress (Limited Series) is quite commendable. The award took place on Sunday night (28 February 2021), virtually.

Among the nominees were, Normal People, Small Axe, The Undoing and Unorthodox. It was surely a checkmate for the show to get hold of the winning position amongst such worthy opponents.

Simultaneously, for Taylor-Joy, the defeated contenders were–Cate Blanchett for Mrs America, Daisy Edgar-Jones for Normal People, Shira Haas for Unorthodox and Nicole Kidman for The Undoing in the category.

One of the finest shows of the year, The Queen’s Gambit, surely deserves to win. A well-deserved winner, undoubtedly. The 78th Golden Globe Awards has also proved to be a success for Netflix too as it has swept all the award-winning categories starting from films to web series.
