India vs England’s test match is held at the world’s largest cricket stadium situated in Ahmedabad India. It’s the first match held in the newly built cricket stadium. Here’s everything you need to know about the stadium.

World’s largest cricket stadium: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

The president of India Ramnath Kovind inaugurated the world’s largest cricket stadium on 24th February 2021. Previously it was known as the Motera stadium which was renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium. The stadium was originally constructed in 1983. Which was renovated in 2006. The stadium was closed in 2015 and was demolished with the motive to construct a new stadium.

 

The work of new Motera stadium got completed in February 2020.₹ 800 cores were spent for the rebuilding of the stadium. It’s situated inside Sardar Patel sports Enclave. It’s the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of 110000 spectators. The stadium is owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association. Test matches, ODI and T20 cricket matches were held will be held along with many other international sports henceforth.

Ramnath Kovind after inaugurating the stadium in his address said “ the stadium was first conceptualized by the Prime minister Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He was the president of the Gujarat Cricket Association.” Further, he added that “ The stadium is an example of the eco-friendly development.” The inauguration ceremony too places in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Amit Shah in his address declared too rename the stadium as Narendra Modi Stadium as it was his dream. He said, “ we have decided to name it after the countries Prime Minister as it was Modi Ji’s dream project.” The groundbreaking ceremony of the sport complex in the stadium was performed by President Ramnath Kovind. The sports complex is named bas the Sardar Patel Sports Complex.

The sports complex is featured with disciplines like football, hockey, basketball, kabaddi, boxing, and lawn tennis among others. It’s has a cricket academy within the stadium along with an Olympic size swimming pool, badminton and tennis court along with a table tennis area, a clubhouse and three practice grounds. It has a huge ramp that can facilitate 60,000 people simultaneously.

It was the venue for the 2020’s international event ‘Nmaste Trump’ which was held on 24 February by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and USA President Donald Trump. The stadium hosted many programs arranged by the Gujarat Government.

1981, 1996, 2011 Cricket world Cup was held in the old Motera stadium. 12 test matches, 23 ODI matches and 1 T20 match were held as of 2020. The new stadium opens with the India vs England’s test match which was held in 24th February 2021. The stadium covers an area of around 63 acres. It has three entry points with one metro line at 1 of the entry point.

The stadium is featured with 76 cooperate boxes with a holding capacity of 25 people per box, 55 rooms and four dressing rooms. The unique think about the stadium is the arrangement of the LED light. The lights are arranged on the roof instead of the floodlights at the cricket ground. This gives an unobstructed view of the entire ground. This makes it unique and different from all the other stadiums.
