Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 coming on new-gen gaming platforms this year, upgrade options

Think skateboard, you recall the “Birdman”, Tony Hawk. And when you think of a skateboarding game, the one came that comes to mind is the Tony Hawk series. If you ever felt missed out about trying a skateboarding game and want to start, here’s a good news. The first two games of Tony Hawk series are coming this year on new platforms.

Although this does not sound too surprising, as both the games are already available on PS4 and Xbox One. But still, a remastered version and a smoother performance never hurts, does it? Moreover, if you are a Nintendo Switch user, the game will arrive for Switch as well.

About Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2

The set includes the first two games of the Tony Hawk Series – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater(1999) and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2(2000). Originally developed by Neversoft and remade by Vicarious Visions, it is primarily an arcade style game where the player has to perform stunts and fulfil objectives to earn points. There is a ‘special’ gauge which allows the player to perform special tricks once you fill the meter.

Pro Skater 1+2 is the third remake, the first two being Pro Skater 2x(2001) and Pro Skater HD(2012). It released for PS4 and Xbox One last year in September. The latest version will be further remastered and optimised for the new consoles. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, you will be able to play at 120 fps at 1080p resolution; or 60 fps at 4K. If you are an Xbox Series S user, you will be able to play it at a 1440p resolution or 4K.

The remastered version will also include spatial audio, allowing for a better sound experience, especially when you are using headphones. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 will release for PS5 and Xbox consoles on March 26, 2021. For Nintendo Switch, it will release within this year, but there is no specific date yet.

How to Get the Upgrade if We Already Own It?

Unlike most of the games where you can get a free upgrade to a newer version, this game has some conditions. Moreover, If you are an Xbox one user, there is no upgrade offer available. For PS5 users here are the conditions for upgrading from PS4 to PS5:

  • In case you have the Digital Deluxe edition on PS4, you get a free upgrade. However, if you are from Japan, the upgrade will cost 100 yen.
  • If you have purchased the game digitally but you do not have the Digital Deluxe edition, you can pay $10 to get the ‘Cross Gen Deluxe Bundle’. This will not only upgrade your game for PS5 but also include content from the Digital Deluxe edition.
  • For the ones who own a physical disc for the PS4 game, you can get an upgrade as well. However to play the game, you will still need to insert the disc.
