The second season for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime series was hanging around for a while since its announcement in 2019. Now lately, the team finally broke its silence regarding the status. And it’s good news! Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid will return this year for a second run. Moreover, the team has also released the first trailer for the series.
About Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a fiction-comedy manga created by Coolkyousinnjya. Since May 2013, its chapters were publishing in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine. The original manga has 10 volumes, compiling the chapters. Four spin-off titles are also being published – Kanna’s Daily Life, Elma’s Office Lady Diary, Lucoa is my xx, and Fafnir the Recluse.
The Plot of The Manga
The story is about a dragon, who one day visits the house of Kobayashi, a programmer. The dragon transforms into a human maid and introduces herself as Tohru. Kobayashi actually met the dragon before in the mountains last night. She removed the holy sword from the dragon’s back, thus earning the dragon’s gratitude in return.
Kobayashi takes Tohru in as her maid. However, funny situations arise as Tohru tries to keep the house. While this scares Kobayashi, Tohru’s presence also attracts other beings like dragons and gods. One day, another dragon named Kanna arrives her place, asking to return Tohru to her. As it is later found that Kanna is exiled and homeless like Tohru, Kobayashi takes her in as well. Slowly a familial bond forms between the three.
Release Date for The Second Season
Kyoto Animation Developed the first season of the anime, releasing it in 2017. Yasuhiro Takemoto acted as the director of the series. In early 2019, the team announced a second season. However, there was no further update since the death of Takemoto in the 2019 arson attack at the Kyoto Animation Studio.
For the second season, titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, Kyoto animation is returning as the developing studio. Tatsuya Ishihara will take over the role of the director, although Takemoto will still be credited with Ishihara. It will release sometime in July 2021 as announced.
