For the American filmmaker Zack Snyder, 2021 appears to be quite fruitful. With a number of films like 300(2006), Sucker Punch(2011), Man of Steel(2013), and other DCEU movies from there, he is ready to launch a new franchise now. Moreover, the first of the franchise will be a movie, set to release this year.
Snyder’s version of Justice League movie is just a month away. And now the first look of his another film Army of the Dead is out. This marks Snyder’s first non DCEU film since his involvement with the universe. Also, we well soon get the first teaser in the next few coming days.
About The Movie Army of the Dead
While there is not much information about the movie, but its certainly different from the zombie outbreak movies we have watched. Zack Snyder originally wrote the story. It was later made into a screenplay by Snyder, along with Shay Hatten, and Joby Harold. This screenplay is used as the basis for the movie.
The story is set in a post apocalyptic world, where an accident at Area 51 releases a threatening virus. The virus causes the people to turn into zombies, causing an outbreak. In the midst of the catastrophe, a group of mercenaries decide to rob a casino vault in Las Vegas.
The Cast and Future Projects
Army of the Dead will release on May 21 this year on Netflix. The movie will star Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanata, and Matthias Schweighöfer. Zack Snyder will direct the movie solely and co-produce with Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller.
Apart from the upcoming movie, there is a prequel movie and an anime series in the works as well. Shay Hatten will be writing the screenplay for both. Matthias Schweighöfer will direct and star in the prequel movie, planned for a 2022 release. For the anime series, the name of the series will be Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and will focus on the characters during the initial phase of the outbreak.
Snyder is also planning another anime series based on Norse Mythology. The first teaser for Army of the Dead will be out on February 25.
