The Tatmadaw, the official name of Myanmar’s armed forces, impeached the power of the National League for Democracy (NLD) which Myanmar’s ruling party members have elected democratically. Moreover, it has been declared by Tatmandaw that the powers have been bestowed to Min Aung Hlaing who is the Commander-of-chief in the defence.

The coup d’état took place in November 2020 before the Parliament of Myanmar was due to swear. When the powers of Government are removed illegally by a political party, military or dictator is termed as coup d’état or coup.

Details about the protest going on

Thousands of people were asked to join on 22 February 2021 fora general strike against Min Aung Hlaing.

“It is found that the protesters have raised their incitement towards riot and anarchy mob on the day of 22 February. Protesters are now inciting the people, especially emotional teenagers and youths, to a confrontation path where they will suffer the loss of life”, displayed on the TV screen, channel MRTV.

Though the protest was taking place peacefully, but the military people aren’t letting them do it and have suspected to be terrorists behind this protest.

“They’re chasing and arresting us. We’re just protesting peacefully. We don’t want the junta, we want democracy. We want to create our own future” a woman has posted on Facebook informing the condition at that place.

“The United States will continue to take firm action against those who perpetrate violence against the people of Burma as they demand the restoration of their democratically elected government. We stand with the people of Burma,” Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, posted on his official Twitter handle by showing his support to the people of Myanmar.

The Situation at Yangon

Yangon is the city where the protest is taking place by hundreds of thousands of protesters. The security forces have been arranged by the military at the place of protest. The protesters are posting pictures on social media which shows us the police vehicles and the water cannon truck is present there. However, three protestors have already been killed in the military government’s repression.
