If Jujutsu Kaisen was something you put off for later watching or you never heard of it before, now you got a bigger reason to watch. The 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards took place some hours ago. And Jujutsu Kaisen got the highest accolade it could ever get. The anime adaptation of Gege Akutami’s manga has become the “Anime of the Year”.
The Story of Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Itadori, a physically fit student chooses Occult Research Club over the track team. This allows him to visit his grandfather at the hospital, who is on his deathbed. He and his friends at the club come across a talisman. Megumi Fushiguro, a sorcerer warns Yuji that the talisman is cursed and contains a great evil.
Yuji’s friends unseal the talisman and a rotting finger begins to cause trouble at school. Curses, monsters emerging from the negative emotions of people become attracted to the finger. Since Yuji does not have any magical powers, he swallows the finger in an attempt to save Megumi. Thus, Yuji becomes a host of Ryoumen Sukuna, a powerful curse and becomes possessed.
Yuji manages to take over his body again. However, all the sorcerers want to eliminate him along with Sukuna because of the power it wields. Satoru Gojo, Megumi’s teacher takes him to Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. He also tells the other sorcerers that this will allow then to keep an eye. Moreover, he proposes to hold Yuji’s death sentence until he consumes all fingers of Sukuna.
At The 2021 Crunchyroll Awards
No anime made a sweep this year when it comes to awards. As for Jujutsu Kaisen, it did manage to win the most awards this year. Apart from earning the grand “Anime of the Year” title, it also won the award for Best Antagonist (Ryoumen Sukuna) and the best ending sequence (LOST IN PARADISE by ALI feat. AKLO). It was nominated for 10 categories in total.
Kaguya Sama: Love is War?, Keep Your Hands Off Eizuken! and Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World also took home two awards each. It was a bit disappointing for BEASTARS and The Great Pretender. BEASTARS won only one award out of 9 nominations. The Great Pretender had the most nominations – 12. But it failed to bag any win.
