Gus Fring is one of the greatest if not the best Villains of all time. It’s a fictional character first introduced in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad as a meth distributor. It was played by Giancarlo Esposito. He played the role so passionately that now I can’t even think of him playing some other character.
It is said the writer just write a character. But an actor makes the character an epic and that’s what Giancarlo Esposito did with the character of Gus Fring. He was introduced in Breaking bad as one of the main antagonists of Walter White and since we have seen him in Better Call Saul too.
GUS FRING IN BREAKING BAD:
Gus Fring was introduced in Breaking Bad in the 11th episode of season 2 as a manager of the Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant chain. His character had a slow arc. He is patient and has discipline and charisma like no other antagonist in this show. He is also well mannered and a calm person. He is one of the largest suppliers of meth. He hires Walter and Pinkman to made the drugs for him in the basement of his laundry business. He had one of the greatest character arcs in history.
GUS FRING IN BETTER CALL SAUL:
Gus Fring is by far one of the most intelligent characters written. What he shows he is in front of people is far different than who he really is. And it was explored amazingly in Breaking Bad. But he was also introduced in Better Call Saul, a prequel to Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul focuses on Jimmy McGill, who is known as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad, and his journey to this new persona. Gus Fring was introduced in this show too. But in this show, we know his character. He is no mystery to us. We know what he is fond of. and what he does not like.
A NEW SPIN-OFF:
As the show Better Call Saul is in the final seasons, we are almost seeing the ending of many characters and how they turned out. But it seems Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gus Fring in Breaking Bad universe has another great idea. In this spin-off, we can see the origin of Gus Fring. Where he came from, his family, his ambition, his friends, and the tragedy behind all this. He is talking to Vince Gilligan about this.
