Singers Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been creating quite a buzz for some time now. The rumours broke long back but later the PDA said it all. After some months, things began to cool down – which makes us wonder how things are going. Some fans even felt that maybe things are not going too well between the two.
As of now, this is far from truth. Despite their relationship is about a year and a half young, both of them seem to be quite comfortable with each other. And when you look at the way things have been going, there are chances that they will stay for long. Here is a timeline of their relationship so you can see for yourself.
Beginnings (2014 – 2016)
In 2014, Mendes and Cabello met for the first time when Fifth Harmony was on tour, opening for Austin Mahone. In an interview with V Magazine, Cabello admits that she wanted to hang out with him but he as always in his tour bus. Mendes agrees with her that he never talked to anybody. She was the one who used to talk to him.
They met again in 2015 at the Video Music Awards in LA where Cabello posed with Mendes at the afterparty. Later, they met at a Taylor Swift concert. Cabello went to meet Mendes backstage and the two began writing a song. In November 2015, the two released their duet single “I Know What You Did Last Summer” which was the first time Cabello went solo.
Cabello and Mendes performed the song on The Tonight Show and The Jingle Ball Show in LA. Both of them were getting along well. In 2016, at iHeartRadio Music Awards both of them jointly accepted the award for Best Pop Video and Fan Favourite, for their single.
The Friendship (2017-2019)
Camila Cabello released her single “Crying in the Club” in May 2017. In response, Mendes reached out on Twitter, supporting her and her video. At this point, fans had already begun shipping them. Shawn complimented Cabello by tweeting “Speechless! You’re incredible.”
In 2018, in an interview with Zane Lowe, Shawn Mendes expressed what he felt about Camila. He was promoting his third album at the time. Mendes said the she was the best person in the whole world. He added that the way she expressed herself in all aspects, whether love or pain, amazed him. At the Billboard Awards, they posed together again with their friend Taylor Swift.
In December, there were speculations that Cabello and Mendes were up for another duet. Camila shared a photo of both of them sitting on the floor, and she was playing the guitar. After that, at the Grammys in 2019, both congratulated each other for their first ever nominations on social media. They even performed on stage.
The Dating (2019 – Present)
In June 2019, fans witnessed another collaboration by Mendes and Cabello with the release of their music video “Senorita”. During this time, Cabello reportedly broke up with her boyfriend Matthew Hussey. After that, Mendes and Cabello were spotted multiple times hanging out with each other.
Cabello stood by Shawn on his 21st Birthday. In September, they apparently teased their relationship as they answer to trolls how they actually kiss by a video. On questions whether their relationship was fake, Cabello clearly answered that they are not doing it for the public. This left stars like Billie Eilish and Justin Bieber shocked.
In November, they performed together on their song “Senorita” at the American Music Awards. Later, in the 2020 Grammys, despite walking separately on the red carpet, they were together the rest of the time.
Quarantine Time and Beyond
In March 2020, during the quarantine, they spent it together in Miami by self isolating, performing their songs, and binge watching movies. Camila was teaching Spanish to Shawn, and Shawn taught her guitar. Things at this point obviously became low key, making fans think if all is good between them. Cabello, in a way, assured them all by posting a video of Mendes from his new album “Wonder”.
In November, the couple took their relationship to the next level when they adopted a puppy, naming him Tarzan. Later they did a third duet with “The Christmas Song” which is a bonus song in Mendes’ album Wonder: Deluxe Edition. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mendes admitted that he and Cabello talk about getting married. He adds that he does not want to rush, being young, but when you find that person, you know about that.
