The Rising of The Shield Hero was originally a web novel by Aneko Yusagi. It ran from 2012 to 2015 on the website Shosetsuka ni Naro. Later, Media Factory adapted the series into light novels. As of now, 22 volumes are out. A manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu is also running since 2014. Kinema Citrus adapted the series into a 25 episode anime which broadcasted in 2019.
“The rising of the shield hero is a multidimensional story where all the characters possess a different facet and bring their own edge to this tale, these dramatis personae wear their character so well that they end up making “the rising of the shield” best isekai anime to date.
The protagonist of the story is Naofumi Iwatani, a carefree boy who is called into another world. Naofumi has accumulated newfound confidence, under the pressure of saving the world by defeating obstacles. He is not alone as three other men enter from other worlds. The kingdom recruits them as Cardinal Heroes, who would fight ‘Waves’ of monsters. While other members get offensive weapons, Naofumi gets a powerful shield.
Things don’t go well for him as Naofumi is looked down upon by the kingdom and the other heroes. He does not even get the resources for training. Malty, the only person who stood by him, falsely accuses him of sexual assault and steals his belongings.
Now all by himself, he struggles to train until he buys a demon Raphtalia and an egg, Raphtalia is again another strong character from the narrative, who is much more than a jaw-droppingly beautiful face as she has got impressive powers and has fallen for Naofumi. The egg later hatches into a monster, who he names Filo. Together, the three now work and gain the respect of the people.
In conclusion, The rising of the shield hero season 2 again pirouette around the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani, wo be called in the parallel world along with three young men from a parallel universe to become the worlds leading heroes and brawl against the throng of monsters known as waves. The young tanuki demi-human girl Raphtalia and the bird-like monster Filo will also get to encounter new foes who in turn will be tougher than any character portrayed before.
The Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2 Release Date
At the 2019 Crunchyroll Expo, It was announced that the show will have a second season and a third season. Later in the 2020 Expo, it was announced that the second premiere will arrive in 2021. Kinema Citrus will collaborate with DR Movie this time for producing the second season.
Moreover, the team has also said that the third season will arrive sooner than expected. The first season covered the first five volumes so the forthcoming seasons will pick from there. You can watch the upcoming seasons on AT-X, Crunchyroll. The English dub will also be available on Funimation.
