Trebek is a famous game show host and a television personality. This famous Canadian- American game show host was born on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He is a son of George Edward Trebek and Lucille Marie Lagacé and Alex born in the French-English household. When his father George Trebek was a small child he emigrated from Ukraine and was a chef and his mother Lucille was a Franco-Ontarian.
Trebek’s early life
After he was born in Canada as a kid he attended Sudbury High School which is now known as Sudbury Secondary School and then he attended and graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1961 with a degree in philosophy. After his graduation, he was interested in a career in broadcast news.
Alex Trebek was a famous game show host as he hosted several shows in his long career as a host. Trebek was the host of the famous game show ‘Jeopardy!’ This American television personality hosted this game show from its first season that started in the year 1984 and then he went onto host this game show for 37 long years until he died last year.
But reports say that according to his contract he was supposed to host the show until 2022. Alongside hosting Jeopardy! he also hosted other game shows like:
The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, Classic Concentration and To Tell the Truth.
He wasn’t limited to a host-only as he starred in many television series. for his work in the game show Jeopardy! he received ‘Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host’ seven times.
Cause of the death
All these past years legend Trebek was so busy entertaining fans through his game show that he never thought his regular stomach ache will be a sign of severe disease. March 6, 2019, was a sad date and year for Trebek and his fans as that he announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
After diagnosing he started his treatment and wishing for a bright and healthy future. In October 2019 in an interview with CTV’s Chief Anchor the late game show host said, “I’m not afraid of dying and I’ve lived a good life, a full life and I’m learning the end of that life. If it happens, why should I be afraid of that?”
But last year wasn’t good for him as after fighting pancreatic cancer for 18 long months he died on November 8, 2020, at the age of 80. He took his last breathes in his home in Los Angeles. If we took about his last work as a host then he taped his final episode as a game show host on October 29, 2020.
People were sad as a legend left the earth
After his died the whole world along with fans were very sad that a legend left them and fans in a wake of remembering him started sharing his career’s moments in short clips on social media.
One fan Burt Thakur was pretty special as once he was a contestant and the winner of the show ‘Jeopardy!’ he told everyone the impact that Trebek has on his life. He said, “You know, there’s a true story, man. I grew up- I learned English because of you. And so my grandfather who raised me- I’m going to get tears right now- I used to sit on his lap and watch you every day. So it’s a pretty special moment for me. Thank you very much.”
Thakur later wrote a message for Trebek as he was sad after hearing the news. He wrote, “When with proud joy we lift Life’s red wine up to drink deep of the mystic shining cup And ecstasy through all our being leaps- Death bows his head and weeps. I am overwhelmed with emotion right now and my heart goes out to the Trebek family.”
The world will always remember Trebek as a great host and as a great person.
