Elliot Page, earlier known as Ellen Page is an actor and producer. Elliot is in highlight nowadays because of his divorce and the reason behind it. The actor is popularly known for his roles in Juno, The Tracey Fragments, Whip It, Super, Inception, X-Men and Tallulah. Elliot was recently seen in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.
He married a professional dancer Emma Portner in 2018. Emma is a dance choreographer at Broadway Dance Centre. After three years of their marriage, Elliot has filed a divorce from Emma. Continue reading to know the reason behind it.
The reason behind their divorce
The reason behind their divorce is sexuality of Elliot. Elliot came out to be transgender in December 2020. He publically announced about it and gave his statement on social media. Let’s have a look at a part of his statement.
“I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who supported me along this journey”.
What was Emma’s reaction to it?
Emma came out to be a very supportive and open-minded woman. The moment Elliot revealed himself to be as transgender, Emma took a screenshot of his post and reposted it on her social media platform.
She expressed her feelings about it and thus wrote, “I am so proud Elliot. Trans, queer and non-binary people are gift to this world. I also ask for patience and privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in amd of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much”.
How did they both open up about their divorce?
In a recent interview, Emma and Elliot made a joint statement and said, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following their separation last summer”. They continued by saying that even after divorce, they will share a close bond and will respect each other. Along with this, they will still be close friends.
Little about their past relationship that finally came to an end.
Emma and Elliot first met on Instagram in 2017. After 6 months of their relationship, they got married privately in 2018. However, after their marriage, they were always spotted together everywhere. As per their previous interviews, it seemed that they were just made for each other.
Emma expressed her love for Elliot by saying that Elliot is best for him and supports her in her dancing career. But suddenly in December, Elliot revealed his sexuality and then filed for divorce on 26 January 2021. However, in 2014 he confessed that he is gay.
