Javicia Leslie is a 33years old American actress. She has done her diploma in Acting from Los Angeles. Javicia most probably started her career with BET series ‘The Family Business’ and then appeared in the film ‘Always a Bridesmaid’ in 2019.
But her recent fame is because of her incredible debut as the lead actor in the second season of ‘Batwoman’. Javicia will portray as Rayn Wilder in the series. Ruby Rose was the lead in the first season.
The first Black actor to play superhero
Javicia Leslie is the first ever’Black’ actress to play the lead role as a superhero in CW series. In an online interview Jessica mentioned that she is very proud of herself for reaching such a place in her life. She said,” I am proud to be the first black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on TV and I am honoured to join this groundbreaking show”.
Javicia said that it’s never that easy that I can say,”You didn’t pick me because I’m Black”. She is happy that finally a change took place.
Javicia will play a different role as the lead from that of Ruby Rose’ role. Rayn (Javicia ) will be a likeable, messy, a little goofy and untamed, as described by Warner Bros.
Javicia’s Journey to Become CW’s Batwoman
Javicia was not a famous face before her lead role in Batwoman. Moreover, she faced alot of problem as she is dark in color. In an interview with Collider, Javicia revealed her struggle and journey to achieve her goals. She grew up admiring superheroes and her role is like a dream come true for her.
While describing her autidion experiences, Javicia said, “I played it real cool at the audition,and then I just let it go. I was auditioning for just a lot of different things and this was just another one”. It was like a blessing for her when she got chosen for her role as Batwoman.
Moreover her journey in the series is also somewhere a struggle. It’s little tough for her to walk or use her hands like a superhero. Everything is new for her. But her character- Rayn Wilder is also the same. So her acting will come out to be a real one.
Referring to her starting peak as an actor Javicia mentioned that how black actors were not given the lead role in films and TV series at her time. She said,” The first Black Batwoman is the beginning of change”.
The second season of Batwoman will be aired on Sunday, January 2021 at 9pm.
