BBC’s The Luminaries is one of the most-loved series in 2020 and the fans are wondering if it would follow in to a season 2. The first season had six-episodes and the plot is based on the 2013 Man Booker Prize-winning novel by author Eleanor Catton.

Series 2 Renewal Status and Release Date
The first episode of The Luminaries was aired on Sunday, June 21st. However, it is very unlikely that a second season is going to happen. It seems to conclude at episode six, as it is based on a singular book and there is no other potential source to rely on to produce the next season. Moreover, it is labelled as a mini-series, thereby implying it is only a one-off.
Ewen Leslie who plays Crosbie Wells in the Luminaries, admitted, “I have no idea. I think my feeling would be that it might just be a mini-series. I mean I would be all for some sort of Crosbie Wells spin-off. I guess I’m dead so that’s probably a sort of afterlife thing. If she [Catton] was to do it, I imagine it would probably because she’s written a sequel to the book. [That] would be my feeling but yes I couldn’t say for sure.”
Commenting on the plot of the series, Leslie said: “Ultimately, at the very heart of the love story, and the love story that exists between the characters played by Eve Hewson and Himesh Patel. It’s very transportation. I think people watching it will be transported to another time. And I think that there’s also a lot of magic to it. So I hope people watch it and I hope people really go on the journey with it.”
