Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker Feud Explained: From 2004 Pay Dispute to Reboot Series without Kim Cattrall

HBO just announced the reboot of popular romantic-drama, Sex and the City with original characters reprising their roles. However, one important character from the original TV series will not be making her return in the reboot series. Kim Cattrell, one of the four main protagonists of the show will not reprise in the upcoming series, primarily due to her public fall-out with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

The 64-year-old actress had already mentioned that she doesn’t wish to involve in the series ever again. It didn’t take much time to figure out why she is opting out of possible future projects. Even though Kim played a best friend’s role to Sarah’s character on-screen, the relationship between the actress off-screen reportedly disturbed the popular series for years.

Kim played a confident and independent businesswoman in the series while Sarah was credited as the main protagonist and narrator of the show, Carrie Bradshaw. The duo had a great relationship and chemistry on-screen but had numerous ups and downs over the years off-screen. Kim once even mentioned that she and Sarah were never friends and bashed the 55-year-old actress publicly.

Kim-Sarah’s feud dates back to 2004

Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall met on the set of Sex and the City in 1998 and worked together for six years until the show’s cancellation in 2004. The reports claimed that money is to be blamed in the conclusion of the series. Sarah grabbed the producer credit and her paycheck was more than the other girls in the series. Kim didn’t receive this well, which resulted in tension between her and Sarah and the ending of the series.

There were rumours surrounding the actresses that three main women of the show weren’t talking to Kim in 2009. Later, Sarah said the rumours were false and claimed that she wouldn’t have done SATC movie without Kim Cattrall.

The third and final SATC movie was in the works in 2016. However, the producers scrapped the sequel after Kim didn’t wish to return in the sequel. In 2017, Kim revealed that she and Sarah had never been friends, and she expected Sarah could be a little bit nicer to her. Sarah responded to Kim’s comment by saying that she was heartbroken with her words while speaking to Andy Cohen in 2018.
