The Netflix exclusive series by Marvel has been appreciated well by viewers. Initially beginning with four shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist; all the four protagonists were seen together in a crossover series The Defenders.
Later, another spin off series The Punisher aired on Netflix which centered on Frank Castle as the Punisher who as a supporting character in Daredevil.
What Happened Between Netflix and Marvel?
Netflix had cancelled all of the series in 2018, except Jessica Jones and The Punisher, which cancelled in 2019; because Marvel’s parent company Disney was developing its own streaming service, currently known as Disney+.
Netflix also mentioned that these were expensive to make with the stunts and CGI, and they were not going to profit from these shows.
Because of high viewership, fans requested Marvel to bring them back. However, because of the exclusivity of the deal with Netflix, Marvel could not use them apart from Netflix and had to wait for two years use them.
Charlie Cox as Daredevil
As per Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios and creator-producer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, they are willing to bring characters like Daredevil back as soon as they can. With the Netflix series being cancelled in 2018 after three seasons, the plan could actually move forward.
Even if it’s not a TV series, we could see them as a supporting characters or maybe even solo movies. Marvel could actually redeem for the Daredevil movie even though it already has with the series.
As per the sources of We Got This Covered, Charlie Cox is ‘as good as confirmed’ for future MCU movies, where he will be reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Most probably, we could see him in the upcoming Spiderman Movie where he would play a lawyer, maybe for Peter Parker.
Could We See Jon Bernthal as Well?
Considering Feige’s intentions to bring the Defenders back to the screen, it is highly possible that Jon Bernthal could also return as Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed for both Cox and Bernthal, but it is very likely that he could be a part as well. Bernthal is in talks with Marvel and is very interested in returning to play as Castle.
Since the character was originally introduced in Spiderman comics, he could be a part as well in the third movie or the fourth movie.
The antihero can also be introduced in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. As viewers, we know it is possible to somehow incorporate them in the gigantic movie series, so we will have to ‘keep fingers crossed’ for the official announcement.
