Rumours are swirling up that a Barbie movie scripted and developed by filmmaker Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach is going to be released soon. It will feature the all-time favourite, Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie in the lead role, and it seems that the fans can barely hold their patience.
Lets see what Margot Robbie has to say:
“We like the things that feel a little left of center. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.”
Release date for the movie
This highly anticipated project has been in the works since 2014. Famous Hollywood actresses like Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway have been in talks for the lead role, and even it has altered studios, from Sony to Warner Bros.
It was scheduled to be released in 2020, but that didn’t happen. The pandemic really hampered the progress and now we might expect a release date at some point in 2022.
Cast
As of now, Margot Robbie is the only actor confirmed for the cast of Barbie. Toby Emmerich of Warner Bros said, “Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”
She has already shown her versatility in a wide array of films like The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Considering her performances in all these films, we are all eyeing on her upcoming project.
