AMC’s drama series Better Call Saul was renewed for a sixth and final season in January 2019. As per the show’s co-creator Peter Gould, the production of Better Call Saul Season 6 was supposed to start at the end of the year but it got delayed due to the current pandemic situation.
Despite the efforts to safely resume by Sony, the network backing the show, it was certain as with much other television series, that the production will move to a later date.
What To Expect From Better Call Saul Season 6
Two things we mentioned earlier – First, it was renewed but the production got delayed. Second, the finale of the fifth season will certainly be an element of the sixth season. The show was renewed for 13 episodes this time, making a total of 63 episodes.
It can also talk about what happens to Kim, Jimmy’s girlfriend, and Nacho; because both are going to be a part of the season but do not exist in Breaking Bad. Being the last, it obviously needs to fully evolve Jimmy’s character as well.
Peter Gould did tell the viewers to watch for ‘the bottle opener’. He also added that Nacho would get into deep trouble.
The Story of Better Call Saul
Better Call Saul is a prequel and a spin-off to the earlier AMC’s cult drama series Breaking Bad starring Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with lung cancer.
To arrange for the financial security of his family after his death, he partners with his former student Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul. The two produce and distribute crystal meth, a drug, and also enter into a life of crime in the process.
The prequel series gets deep into the details of the character Saul Goodman and how he became Saul Goodman. It highlights how a conman, Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, becomes a lawyer and later Saul, a criminal-for-hire. The story takes place six years before the events of Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul Season 6 Story Moving Forward
While the first four seasons did not talk much about Jimmy’s transformation, the finale of season 4 finally hinted that he was going to enter into law as a profession. As a result Season 5 had a lot more clarity about Jimmy’s transition.
Jimmy, the post being stuck in the desert for days, was dealing with PTSD and dehydration. Jimmy’s girlfriend Kim decides to take care of him and even stands up to Lalo when he interrogates Jimmy about what happened.
Kim also quits her job for which she is disrespected by Howard Hamlin. She approaches Jimmy to seek revenge by ruining Hamlin’s career, but Jimmy declines.
In the finale, Gus Fring conspires with Nacho and a few more criminals to kill Lalo Salamanca. However, Lalo manages to escape and kill all the accomplices, except Nacho, who got away. The final episode ends with a cliffhanger as both Gus and Lalo survive. But it is obvious that this is not the end, as Lalo does seem to finish what is left.
Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gus Fring, has told in October that the production was supposed to resume in September but the date got postponed to March 2021. As per what he said, and since no official release date is out for Better Call Saul Season 6 yet, we can expect the final season to air in fall 2021 or later.
