The Book of Boba Fett Release Date Confirmed, The Mandalorian Season 3 Production Updates

The finale episode of the second season of The Mandalorian was an eventful episode, which featured heartbreaking separation, unexpected cameo, and thrilling post-credits. The post-credits scene from the finale episode revealed a title, The Book of Boba Fett, with a tentative arrival date of December 2021. Disney previously announced that the third season of The Mandalorian will premiere in December 2021. So, the fans speculated that the title, The Book of Boba Fett is the third season of The Mandalorian.

However, The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau later confirmed that The Book of Boba Fett is a separate spin-off series, not the third season of the Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett will exist alongside the Mandalorian and two recently announced spin-off series — Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic. Jon Favreau along with Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez will be the executive producers the spin-off series. Favreau will serve as the showrunner.

The Book of Boba Fett will tell the adventures of Boba Fett and his right-hand Fennac Shand, following the finale events of The Mandalorian. Temura Morrison will reprise his role as the titular bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Boba Fett appeared as an antagonist in the original Star Wars trilogy and served under the crime boss Jabba the Hutt. He presumably died in the Return of Jedi after falling into a Sarlacc, but he somehow managed to survive.

Boba Fett killed Bib Fortuna, who claimed Jabba’s throne after the latter’s death. The new Disney Plus series will tell the exploits of Boba Fett as the new crime boss of Tatooine.

Jon Favreau confirmed that the filming for the miniseries has already commenced. As for the third season of The Mandalorian, there aren’t new updates. Favreau, however, mentioned that the production team will move to film the third season after the completion of Boba Fett. The third season of The Mandalorian will obviously feature beloved Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian.

Disney recently conducted the Disney Investor Day 2020 event, where they announced multiple projects for coming years. The Mouse House announced eight new Disney Plus original series based on the Star Wars. Lando, Obi-Wan, The Acolyte, Amdor, The Bad Batch, and Visions are the series that will release outside of The Mandalorian timeline.
