From the ice rinks of hockey comes this sad news about the beloved Henrik Lundqvist one the greatest goaltender of all times in the National Hockey League (NHL). King Henrik as he is lovingly called by all NHL fans, declared in a short video on his social media account that he won’t be able to play in the upcoming season due to the discovery of a recent heart condition that needs medical attention.

Mr. Lundqvist started his video by calling it a pretty tough and emotional day for him to announce that he will sit out the upcoming NHL season because of a heart condition. He was undergoing various tests on his heart for several weeks now. ‘’ After lots of discussions with doctors around the country, and finally receiving the last results earlier this week, I, unfortunately, won’t be able to join the team this year,” Lundqvist said.
He had joined the Capital two months back, before which he was a goaltender for New York Ranger for fifteen years. Lundqvist said that he was excited to play for the Capital, after being bought by the Rangers and signed a $1.5 million, one year deal to play for the Washington Capital.
The support
After the news came, there was an outpour of support and wishes for Mr. Lundqvist’s speedy recovery and a declaration that the health of a player is more important than any game.
The Capital owner Ted Leonsis wrote in a tweet that he is only concerned with Mr. Lundqvist’s health and his family’s wellbeing. The entire NHL family supports the King.
The New York Rangers’ tweeter handle also shared the same sentiment and wished a speedy recovery to Henrik, so did many of his teammates and fellow players. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman called Mr. Lundqvist ‘’a beloved player’’ and a great ambassador of the sport.
