The latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 didn’t air on its usual Thursday 9 pm slot due to Thanksgiving break in the US. But, the fans won’t have to wait long as the episode will return next Thursday, on December 3, instead. The medical drama, created by Shonda Rhimes, has been up and running since its debut back in 2005.
ABC renewed the television series for the seventeenth in May 2019. The new season returned after seven months hiatus in-between seasons. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, ABC suspended the production of Season 16 on March 12, 2020. The seventeenth season is going to have only 16 episodes, which is the shortest season after the first season in 15 years.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 draws inspiration from the current worldwide situation, as the new season takes place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital has been treating the patients suffered from the COVID-19. Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo) and the doctors at Grey Sloan are working tirelessly to save the lives of the people. The series’ lead character Meredith Grey leads the front-line workers and is worried from patients dying due to the virus.
Meredith has COVID-19
Meredith collapses near the parking lot of the hospital and it turns out she also has the virus. There was another surprising moment in the seventeenth season. Derek Shepherd, Meredith husband who died in a car crash in Season 11 returned in the second episode. In the previous episode, it is revealed that another doctor has also caught the coronavirus. Tom Koracick tested positive for the virus and is going stir crazy in the upcoming episode.
Grey’s health is continuously deteriorating and Amelia and Maggie are having hard times to control her falling health. Meanwhile, Owen is struggling with a medical diagnosis as it became more challenging than he had previously imagined. Fans are wondering whether their beloved Meredith would survive from the health situation. Episode 4 returns on December 3, on ABC at 9 pm.
