Fast and Furious is returning with the ninth instalment, but fans have to wait a little longer due to the coronavirus pandemics. Fans were excited to witness another adventure of Dom’s crew, but what more excited them is the return of Han Lue. Han Lue appeared in the franchise back in 2006 in the third film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and quickly became a fan favourite. Fans last saw Han in action in Fast and Furious 6 and had a cameo in Furious 7.
Sung Kang’s Han Lue died between the events of Fast and Furious 6 and Furious 7 in the film’s timeline. But, fans have already witnessed his death (presumed) in the third film, Tokyo Drift. Kang’s performance in the third film attracted fans praise and he quickly became the popular character in the Fast and Furious culture. The 48-year-old actor then went to appear in three films after Tokyo Drift.
How Han is alive in the Fast Universe?
However, in the latest Fast 9 trailer, fans had a shocking surprise after Han appeared in front of Dom’s crew. Fans were left wondering how a person who died nearly a decade ago is alive and well in the franchise. Several fan theories then started rolling around the internet explaining how he survived the fatal death.
Deckard Shaw — played by Jason Statham — hit Han’s car in the middle of Tokyo in an apparent car chase. Han’s car rolled upside down and Han seemed morally injured underneath the car. Shortly after, the car blew up and fans thought he died in the explosion. Well, looks like Deckard did hit the car and the car also blew up, but Han didn’t die.
Han stayed under the radar to protect himself from Yakuza
After Gisele’s death in Fast 6, Han returned to Tokyo and began working for the Yakuza. But he has been stealing from them. When the Yakuza discovered his theft, he made them believe that he died with the car explosion so that they wouldn’t come after him. He didn’t meet with Dom’s gang, because he thought Yakuza would know about his existence.
Fast 9 will release on May 28, 2021. Han has to come out of hiding and aid Dom after Dom’s estranged brother, Jakob waged a war against Dom.
