First Look at Netflix’s Anime Series “Pacific Rim: The Black”!

After two movies, the monsters vs. robots franchise Pacific Rim is getting its own animated series over at Netflix, continuing the battle between the Kaiju and the Jaegers.

It’s titled “Pacific Rim: The Black,” we’ve learned tonight, and the first two official images have been shared by the official Netflix Japan Anime account on Twitter!

In 2014, Pacific Rim co-writer and director Guillermo del Toro implied that the war between monsters and robots would continue in an animated series. It was originally meant to precede the live-action sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, but that ended up coming out first.  Now, Netflix has finally revealed its first look at Pacific Rim: The Black.

Two years on from its original announcement, we now have our first look at Pacific Rim: The Black, an original Netflix anime series that expands upon the world of Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Thanks to Netflix Japan Anime (via Bloody Disgusting), two images have been released, the first of which features a fearsome Kaiju, with the second offering a look at our two young protagonists – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.

Netflix and Legendary revealed the first look at the upcoming anime series late Monday in the form of two images, one taking us inside a Jaeger cockpit and the other revealing a brand-new kaiju design. We still know very little about the plot of The Black, but we do know that it will involve the evacuation of Australia at a time when humans thought they’d already beaten the kaiju, and it will follow two siblings piloting an old Jaeger across “a continent of danger.” Check out both images in all their glory below.
