Mark Wahlberg Confirms Uncharted Movie has Wrapped Up Filming

The seemingly impossible actually happened, something that even just a year ago felt like a dream scenario. The Uncharted movie has finished filming.
The official Twitter account of the movie has recently shared a post that officially confirms that filming has been completed. An image of a clapperboard from the film with the obvious prop that resembles Nathan Drake’s iconic ring necklace was also shown. It also shows who the director is, which is Director Ruben Fleischer. The caption of the post is “Sic Parvis Magna. That’s a wrap on #UnchartedMovie.”

I can’t believe I’m saying this… but after nearly a whole decade in development. Multiple scripts, and half a dozen directors. Sony’s live-action Uncharted movie has finally wrapped up filming.

While that doesn’t mean the project is anywhere close to being done. That’s one hell of a milestone for a film that I honestly didn’t think was ever going to get made.

director shifts, script rewrites, and re-castings bring us to 2020. Uncharted, now directed by Venom’s Ruben Fleischer, has been revamped to focus on a much younger. Nathan, played by Tom Holland, and Wahlberg is now playing Sully, Nathan’s mentor, and longtime friend. The story will have something to do with famed explorer Ferdinand Magellan and feature characters played by Antonio Banderas, Truth or Dare’s Sophia Ali, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Tati Gabrielle.

Timeline:

This news comes just days after Spider-Man actor Tom Holland shared a first look at himself in costume as a younger Nathan Drake. He’ll be joined on his adventures by a slightly younger – but we hope no less sassy – Victor “Sully” Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg. If you needed some context as to how long Uncharted has been in development. By the way, Wahlberg was at one point in line to play Nathan Drake. He’ll now be taking on the role of Drake’s mentor because that’s how long this damn thing has taken to get going.

Will Uncharted end up being any good? I have absolutely no idea – but I love Tom Holland, and I’ve got a soft spot for the games. If nothing else, I’m just glad I’ll never have to write another story about the damn film getting a new director. At least until the inevitable sequel is announced, I guess.

With filming now wrapped, hopefully, it won’t be long until we get a look at Uncharted in a formal movie trailer. Despite the fact that most video game movies don’t turn out to be that good. The film’s star power with Holland and Wahlberg should at least make it a fun romp.

Uncharted is set to hit theaters next year on July 16, 2021.
