Smart Delivery on Xbox allows one to buy a game for the Xbox One. The Xbox One is available in the S or X series.

When the console is updated later, Microsoft can feed the appropriate version of the game to the console. Smart Distribution simply ensures that the new quality version of the game can still be played. However, it only has to be purchased once per console. This feature may seem old-fashioned to PC gamers who have been able for a long time to automatically patch up versions of games through Steam.

The user will need the latest Xbox Series X or S console when it is launched in November. That particular console is important to use Smart Distribution and then it should be compatible with the game.
