Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is an upcoming film in the MCU. As the name suggests, it will explore various universes. It is reported that one of the dimensions can feature Tom Cruise as Tony Stark / Iron Man, a character which was portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. for eleven years.

Tom Cruise in the MCU?

According to a recent report from Daniel RPK’s Patreon account, Marvel Studios is considering to have cameos from various actors. They are said to be playing different versions of established characters. The report states that the studio is eyeing for Tom Cruise to essay Iron Man from another Earth. Cruise was the first choice for the role, but it eventually went to Robert Downey Jr.

The news excited fans, but no confirmation has come officially. Tom Cruise is currently filming Mission: Impossible 7. His next up is a big project which is said to be filmed in space. The actor seems pretty worked up in the coming year.

Earlier in an interview, Cruise talked about the time when he was offered to play Tony Stark. He said that he was not close to being cast as the billionaire-genius. The actor mentioned that he loves RDJ as Stark. Cruise stated that he cannot imagine anyone else in that role.

RDJ as Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark  is considered as the pioneer of the MCU. His first role as the character in Iron Man (2008) was also the first movie in the MCU. He later reprised the role in Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Multiverse of Madness will be directed by Sam Raimi. The movie is also said to feature Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston. Furthermore, It will be linked to the upcoming WandaVision and Loki series. Benedict Cumberbatch will return to play the character of Doctor Strange. Finally, the sequel is currently scheduled to release on March 25, 2022.
