Electronic Arts is releasing another Star Wars video game after releasing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order last year. The game titled Star Wars: Squadrons will release across gaming consoles and PC, next month. Even though both Sony and Microsoft have already announced the release date and price of upcoming next-generation gaming console, EA will release the Star Wars: Squadrons on Xbox and PlayStation 4.
Star Wars: Squadrons features cross-play support, meaning that you can play with your pals, who have different platforms. The PC version further comes with the virtual reality feature. So, if you wish to buy the PC version, then you can play the game using your VR headsets. The developers confirmed that the PlayStation version can be played through the PlayStation VR only.
The video game is set after the events of the Return of the Jedi, in which you can control various Galactic Empire and the New Republic space ships. Since you can control the iconic ships from these two fleets, the game features alternate stories from Republic’s Vanguard Squadron and the Empire’s Titan Squadron. The game reportedly features three modes, in which two are multi-player while the other is single-payer.
Star Wars: Squadrons — Ships and Game Modes
A player can control a total of four ships from both squadrons. The playable ships from the Galactic Empire are TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, and TIE Reaper. While the list of ships from the New Republic squadrons is X-Wing, A-Wing, Y-Wing, and U-Wing.
The developers — Motive Studios — confirmed four playable modes in the game. The first one is a single-player story mode, in which the player controls two pilots from their favourite squadron. The pilots are customizable and you can choose either Rao Highmoon (New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron) or Case Kassandora (Empire’s Titan Squadron).
A game features a 5v5 multiplayer dogfights mode similar to the deathmatch. The other mode is the fleet battles, which is somewhat similar to the dogfights but with a different goal.
