Will Smith and Jada Pinkett married 20 years ago in 1997. After all this time, the couple has gone through a rough patch and they decided that they no longer wanted to call themselves married.
Before dating Jada, Will Smith in fact was married to another woman Sheree Fletcher and she gave birth to their oldest child Trey Smith.
Smith and Pinkett had their first run in with each other on the sets of Fresh Prince of Bel Air in 1994. By 1995, they both started dating.
It was obvious that they both loved each other. However, Pinkett she disliked the idea of marriage and did not want to get married. In 1997, when she was carrying their first child, she faced a lot of pressure from her mother and the society to get married.
Rumors about their “open relationship”
There were many alleged rumours that they were in an open relationship, but they never confirmed anything officially. Their married life was sometimes on the rocky road, but this every so often ensues in long term relationships. A few years the couple separated in order to discover happiness within themselves before finding it in each other.
Will Smith respected and supported the fact that Pinkett never really liked the idea of marriage. For the society, they were husband and wife.
In 2018, Jada Pinkett stated that they wanted to redefine their relationship. Now, they both stand together as life partners and refer to their relationship as a life partnership.
During the time the couple separated, Jada Pinkett dated August Alsina. She notoriously referred to the relationship as an “entanglement”. She discussed this on her show “Red Table Talks” which she hosts along with her mother and daughter.
Nevertheless, Will Smith has clarified in the past that they were still going strong and that divorce was never an option.
The pair’s marriage was not exactly a conventional one as it is obvious. They are under the microscope ever since her relationship with August Alsina several years back.
Pinkett’s dislike for tying the knot
Happiness was not the first emotion she felt when she found out that she was pregnant with their first child. They were in a relationship for two years when this happened. She actually cried all night when she learned she will be giving birth to her first baby because she did not want to get married. The couple also disclosed that they only got married because of her mother’s pressure on them.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett share two kids together namely Jaden Smith and Willow Smith. Both the kids have been featured along with Smith in a few movies. Now they have their own professional careers in singing and acting.
