The second-seeded team and the third-seeded team from the Western Conference will play against each other in the Western Conference semifinals. Denver Nuggets survived the elimination after a close 80-78 Game 7 victory in Round 1 against Utah Jazz. With the win, Nuggets became just the 12th team to win the series after being down 3-1 in the NBA playoffs history.
Nuggets coach Michael Malone suggests that the match-up against Los Angeles Clippers would be tough one considering the team’s strong defence in Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Patrick Beverley. Game 1 in the Western Conference semifinals begins at 9 PM Eastern Time ET on Thursday night at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Los Angeles Clippers advanced to the semifinals after beating Dallas Mavericks 111-97 in Game 6 and winning the series 4-2. Nuggets had tough competition stopping Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell, who amassed 252 points in the seven-game series. But, they had their firepower in Jamal Murray who dropped 221 points in Round 1. But, in the dying seconds, Nikola Jokic’s bucket confirmed Nuggets’ qualification.
The other important player in the Nugetts lineup was the guard Gary Harris, who returned for the second game in series after missing out on injury. Nuggets coach said how important Harris was for the team’s win in Game 7. On the other hand, Kawhi has been amazing during the playoffs scoring 32.8 points, but he has been sluggish in his three-pointers.
